I grew up in rural Wales, in an environment that is perfect for any horse lover - from a young age I was obsessed and was fortunate enough to have parents who understood this obsession and did all they could to facilitate it. Any chance I had I was on the back of a pony, with or without a saddle. I quickly learnt I was able to understand and read horses quite naturally, but like any other child I wasn't aware of what I knew instinctively. That came much later on....
My Time In Canada
As I said, I have spent a lot of time out in Canada, it was out there I really grew and learned what it was to 'train' a horse from the start, and to develop my natural instincts and understand them. I spent time starting young horses, correcting behavioural issues, teaching horses to build their confidence in themselves. I learned a lot about how horses actually learn, and how to read their signals. I also very importantly realised that a lot of the problems horses have, really is down to their owners, and thankfully most of the time unintentional and with nothing but love as a motive, but nonetheless, they created the issues that quickly became the problems.
I am very grateful I got to spend so much time learning in such a wonderful country, from so many wonderful people, it really did enrich my life in all ways.
